Tinctures
Spagyric is a term used in alchemic literature meaning: to ‘draw out and recombine’. I create my tinctures using fresh herbs from the farm, and biodynamic grape spirits. Solstice Farm employs permaculture, organic, astrological, biodynamic growing techniques.
Herbs macerate for several months in alcohol before processing. After extraction is complete, the finished herb body is incinerated in order to extract the plant’s mineral salts. This is done by way of evaporating dissolved salts in washed, calcined ash.
Alchemists recognized plant salts as a vital component. These purified salts are an essential cofactor for assimilation and absorption due to their ionic and piezo-electric nature.
Dosage is generally one to two droppers every few hours as needed during illness, or 2-3x a day as a preventative or health aid.

Astragalus
Immunostimulant, white/red cell booster, warm tonic, prolapse, toning and drying, disease prevention
This herb is one of the most commonly used, and highly regarded in the Chinese pharmacopeia.
Similar to ginseng, the potential usages for this herb are vast. Its primary function is as a strengthening agent. It achieves this by boosting white cell and red cell production, increasing metabolic rates, paired with a host of liver/spleen/stomach/kidney protective qualities, and anti-biotic/anti-infective properties. Astragalus has a distinct ability to “uplift”, and is commonly used to assist in the treatment of prolapse disorders, such as gastic or rectal prolapse.
In addition to its protective, uplifting, and tonifying properties, it has a positive effect on edemas and other fluid retention in the body, due to its drying and diuretic properties. It is also commonly used in cancer patients receiving chemo/radiation therapy due to its strong ability to build white blood cells and protect against infection.
On its own, this herb is warm and drying, and should not be used on its own when heat signs are present in the body, particularly from fevers, and secondarily due to inflammatory conditions. Overall a very safe and effective herb, and highly recommended.

Artemisia Annua Tincture
Fever, nausea, headache, heatstroke, anti-malarial, anti-cancerous effect on leukemia and some lung cancers
This herb has a good effect on externally contracted damp and hot conditions. This would include heatstroke, low fever, nausea, headache, and dizziness.
The World Health Organization has deemed this herb to be the most effective treatment available for malaria, and it helps to cleanse the blood of the parasites.
Artemisia Annua some effect in treating leukemia, and some types of lung cancer as well.

Baical Skullcap
Broad spectrum anti-biotic, anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, liver protective, “old flu”, epidemic disease prevention
This is a very interesting herb with a variety of applications. Its primary function is to clear heat, and to remove toxins and dampness. These types of conditions can present in a variety of ways. The most common would be in a contracted disease type situation where there is fever or dysentery, and baical skullcap has an inhibitory effect on many different pathogens.
A more persistent damp heat condition would be jaundice and hepatitis, which this herb has been shown to have good effects in treating. This leads into some of this herbs more interesting applications, particularly “old flu”. It is not uncommon for infections to move more interior in a weakened immune system, and this herb helps to “push” them back to the surface.
Also, this herb has a broad range of liver protective and detoxicant properties that make it a great candidate for liver health. This herb is a good choice for acute hot-type infections, chronic sub-clinical infections, and general inflammatory heat toxins present in the body, as well as having good liver protective and blood pressure regulating effects.
Keep in mind this herb is anti-biotic, and as such is not an ideal choice for long-term(more than 2 months) detoxification usage. Very effective in the short and mid-term application. Great herb for the medicine cabinet to have on hand.

Balloon Flower
Expectorant, anti-tussive, lung infection, anti-inflammatory
This herb is a primary herb in Chinese medicine for lung problems, particularly with phlegm.
This herb is effective on a wide range of pathogens, and is thermally neutral, so it will not exacerbate fever, or worsen a cold.
It is a wonderful expectorant, expands the lungs, and helps to resolve phlegm.
It is a good cough suppressant herb as well.
This herb has secondary functions in increasing circulation, reducing gastric secretions, and balancing blood sugar.

Chamomile Tincture
Anxiety, digestive upsets, insomnia
Chamomile has been used for centuries to calm people in cases of anxiety. It is also usefull to treat digestive upsets caused by anxiety, irritable bowel syndrome, insomnia, motion sickness as well as anxiety.
Antibiotic and anti-inflammatory activity is exhibited when used topically. Used by herbalists to treat wounds, sunburn, burns, hemorrhoids, mastitis, and leg ulcers.
The essential oil promotes calmness and eases worries and fears, while it helps dull muscular pain and stimulates the liver and spleen. It is useful to reduce skin redness, allergic reactions and to reduce enlarged capillaries.

California Poppy Tincture
Sedative, nervousness, tension, pain relief, sleep aid
This herbs main usage is as a mild sedative.
Clinically, it is used in cases of anxiety and restlessness.
It acts as a mild pain reliever, and helps to induce deeper and more restful sleep.
Very safe, and a good choice for children and other sensitive individuals.

Cleavers Tincture
Cooling and detoxicant, lymph and blood purifier, diuretic, urinary tract infections, kidney stones/cysts
This is a classic spring herb, both cooling and detoxicant. It helps to clean the lymphatic system, and purify the blood. It is very rich in plant chlorophyll.
Cleavers also has a history of usage in treating damp heat of the lower burner, especially urinary tract infections.
It is diuretic, and treats inflammation of the urinary tract, as well as helping to fight infection.
Other syndromes include urinary stones, kidney inflammation and cysts, and prostatitis.
Cleavers has some good effects on chronic damp and hot skin conditions due to its detoxicant properties

Corn Poppy Tincture
Sleep aid, sedative
This is the red poppy most remember from The Wizard of Oz.
It contains a non-addictive alkaloid called rheadine, which helps to induce a deep sleep, and acts as a mild nervous sedative.
This herb also has some cooling and moistening properties and assists in dry coughs due to a variety of conditions.

Echinacea
Infection, inflammation, toxicosis, lymphatic congestion, allergic reactions with heat signs
This is perhaps the most widely recognized and used medicinal herbs in North America. Its primary function is to treat contracted disease with heat signs. It is anti-infective, and anti-inflammatory, and useful for various forms of toxicosis.
This herbs has a wide range of effects in treating infective disease, and has particular functionality on symptoms such as boils, swollen glands, lesions, abscesses, and various other inflammatory disease processes. It also has a blood purifying effect and general lymphatic/detoxicant properties.
It should be noted that this is very commonly OVER used. It has a cold, contractive, anti-biotic nature. Herbs of this type are not suitable for long term usage, just as long-term usage of pharmaceutical anti-biotics can be devastating to the immune system. That being said, this herb is very safe, and one of the most effective options available for treating infective diseases herbally. My Echinacea consists of 3 separate varieties, 2 of which are rare (cultivated not wild-crafted!), and hence has a wider range of effectiveness than the more common single variety extracts.

Gynostema Tincture
Adaptogen, longevity tonic, stress, immune booster, degenerative disease prevention, blood sugar
One of my favorite and best herbs I offer. It is considered a primary longevity herb in many parts of Asia. It has over 100 different saponins that help to regulate hormonal and neurological functioning compared to the 2 dozen or so in ginseng.
It has a wonderful effect on regulating blood sugar, and assists in treating type 2 diabetes.
It is protective against many types of degenerative disease, including cancer.
Another very important property of this herb is its cool nature. Many tonic herbs, particularly immune tonics, are very thermally warm, as opposed to Gynostemma.
Most people in modern times have too much chronic inflammation, and too much of a hot tonic herb can indirectly aggravate inflammatory conditions.
Gynostemma is actually anti-inflammatory. Also, this herb is adaptogenic in nature.

Marshmallow Tincture
Cooling, soothing, demulcent, emollient, inflammation, respiratory complaints
The primary use of this herb is for its wonderful demulcent and emollient properties. It is often used in urinary tract infections.
Also, it is used for digestive tract issues where the natural mucus in the intestines is gone, as in an ulcer for instance.
It is very soothing to inflamed and irritated tissues, and can be used whenever they present, particularly in excess conditions.
It is used in combination with other herbs for coughs and respiratory complaints as well. Extremely safe, and considered a food herb in famine times.

Mugwort Tincture
Menstrual irregularities, digestive stimulant, cold prevention
This best usage of this herb is for menstrual irregularities. Helps to increase uterine specific hormones and to regulate the cycle, including delayed menses.
It has some good secondary properties including being a digestive stimulant, preventing onset of colds, clearing urinary tract infections, and getting rid of intestinal parasites.
Not to be used during pregnancy.
This herb is ruled by Venus, and is a more commonly used herb in magical practices.
Most specifically used to induce dreams and astral projection.
Its strong odor is said to disperse evil spirits. In line with its venusian nature, it is also said to help attract love.

Mullein Tincture
Respiratory remedy, demulcent, anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial
This is a classic respiratory remedy. The herb has demulcent, anti-inflammatory, and antibacterial properties
It helps dry coughs due to its moistening properties, and will subdue overproductive coughs by fighting the infective process. Good for both acute and chronic lung disorders.
Mullein has some secondary effect on hot damp intestinal conditions, such as diarrhea, and urinary tract infections.
Ruled by Saturn. Said to protect against evil, and wild animals. Also used to attract love.

Nettle Tincture
Blood builder/cleanser, trace mineral deficiencies, allergies, environmental pollutants
This is a classic spring herb, with many useful properties. It is a blood builder and cleanser, and is very high in chlorophyll.
Nettle can make a better and cheaper substitute for microalgaes like spirolina. Nettle is also important for mineral deficiencies as it has one of the highest rates of trace mineral content of any herb, especially iron, calcium, and potassium.
It improves the allergic response, and protects against environmental pollutants. The root is specific for prostatitis. Has some hemostatic effects as well. Ruled by Mars.
Said to have a ‘mirror’ like effect against negative intent, returning it to the sender. General protective and ward-like effects, in line with a Martian nature.

Red Sage
Chinese blood tonic, circulatory stimulant, mild sedative, heart/liver protective, anti-neoplastic
This herb is a primary circulatory aid in Chinese medicine. It is one of the most important in that pharmacopeia for arterial congestion, and diminishing heart/circulatory function. It is very effective at breaking up blood stagnation in a variety of conditions including gynecological, epigastric, chest, and abdominal pain.
This herb is also helpful in speeding up recovery from traumatic injury. It has a good effect on cooling and building blood, and exhibits a mild sedative effect. In addition, this herb has important liver protective and anti-cancerous properties.
This herb should NOT be used with any blood thinning medication due to its marked effect on lowering blood viscosity and its ability to perfuse vital organs of the body. I feel this herb is very effective as a blood tonic, and under-utilized in general herbal practice.

Saint Johns Wort Tincture
Anti-depressant, mild restorative, aids in treating retrovirus (epstein barr, etc.)
This herb is best known for its anti-depressive effects, due to a compound called hypericin found in the flowers and buds. It has a nervine effect and which helps to heal damaged nerve tissue and nerve pain.
This herb also has some mild effect in treating a number of retroviral diseases, including herpes, HIV, and others.
The herb makes a wonderful oil infusion useful for treating many kinds of skin outbreaks, burns, bruises, sprains, hemorrhoids, and varicosities.
Use with extreme caution, and only under supervision, in conjunction with pharmaceutical programs, due to its MAO-I properties (suppresses stomach’s ability to break down certain compounds, which can lead to much higher than intended doses of pharmaceutical drugs).

Shitake/Lion’s Mane
Immunostimulant, white cell booster, anti-tumor, cholesterol, blood pressure, nerve/liver/kidney tonic
These 2 mushrooms are both important medicinal aids.
They have both shown great promise in host mediated immune response. Shitake has anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-tumorogenic qualities.
Lion’s Mane has a marked effect on nervous and brain tissue.
It has been studied recently for its ability to regrow damaged nerve tissue. Both these mushrooms are used in the kitchen, and also make wonderful health aids.
They have been combined in this extract to give a wider application of usage for those interested in the health properties of medicinal mushrooms.

Spilanthes Tincture
Anti-biotic, anti-fungal, immune boosting, oral care, infection
This is a very unique herb, with a some general immune enhancing effects as well as very specific ones. It is similar to echinacea in some respects and can be used in the initial phase of infections, and for general lyphatic stimulation.
This is the best herb I know of for dental issues. It has numbing effect very useful for pain, as well as anti-bacterial effects good for decay.
The herb strongly stimulates saliva, and also helps with all kinds of sores of the mouth, including herpes. It has some good effect on blood parasites, including malaria and Lyme disease.
The herbs anti-biotic properties help to suppress candida as well. A very safe herb, however I would recommend caution in long-term internal usage due to its anti-biotic nature, which can suppress some good type of intestinal flora.

Yarrow Tincture
Cold fighter, hemostatic
This is a classic herb used for 2 main purposes. The first is its ability to fight off externally contracted colds, and to sweat out fever. The second usage is hemostatic, which means to stop bleeding.
It can be used externally for this purpose as a poulstice, but is equally effective in tea or tincture form for internal bleeding due to a variety of causes, particularly of the intestinal tract. It is also a bitter tonic, and digestive aid.
